Guys.

Guys.

Did you know when you work two days a week and join anime club and attempt to have a social life outside of campus every spare minute you have ends up being used to finish your course readings?

Every spare minute.

I don't want to read The Iliad any more. I want to read Gail Carriger's Soulless. :(

And I don't want to read about Multilevel Governance and Policy Making. I want to watch Torchwood.

Why did I ever think I wanted a life. Why. Internet > life every time.
themadpoker: (tired)
I want to kill the York Course selection website and everything associated with it.

Subs for episode 20 of Sungkyunkwan Scandal are out! \o/ Ugh I am so super excited I don't know what to do. Okay. OKAY. Here is a deal I am making, I am allowed to watch this episode once I've:

1) watched Water and taken notes,
2) found some articles to use in my Water research paper and,
3) read at least one of the articles for my annotated bibliography

AND THEN IT WILL BE AN HOUR OF JOYOUS JALGEUM QUARTET AND CHO SUN FUN TIMES.

Just realized the chapters in the edition of The Republic I picked up from the library for quotation purposes* don't match the actual volumes of The Republic. X_x Ugh Robin Waterfield why would you even do that? Was it to make my life harder? I think that is why you did it, to make my life harder. And I can't find my TA's e-mail address either so I can't e-mail him to ask about it now. =(

*Because my copy doesn't have the Stephanus numbers, this is what I get for not picking up the professor recommended translation in favour of a cheaper one
themadpoker: (studying)
Hahahaha oh guys it is ridonkulously late and I am still working on this essay and I am fortifying myself with pictures of actors/actresses from dramabeans.com and also pictures of the Undercovers cast. Because pretty people actually do make me feel better when I've been working on an essay for five hours straight. Also, wow, there were like seven typos up there, clearly it is too late for spelling. I will end this post before I reveal myself to be more ridiculous than I already have.
themadpoker: (studying)
Did some of my readings! Have now gained an overinflated sense of confidence in my ability to finish things. Poli Sci fail paper? Hinduism response paper? English essay of which I still have no idea what I'm writing about? NO PROBLEM. I'M ON TOP OF THINGS. S'ALL GOOD.

This is no excuse to take an extra break to go read though. Even if the girl on this cover looks remarkably like Morgana from Merlin. (She looks so much like her! Am I going to imagine this entire book is Merlin AU fic? Yes, yes I am)

ANYWAYS. It is time to tackle the fail paper. STAY STRONG SELF.

And thank you all for the comments, you guys are wonderful. Hugs for everybody!

Oh my God guys. I've been reading this excerpt of William Wordsworth and it is hilarious. xDDD Okay so he's basically being like in poetry we use language adopted from rural life because it's plainer and less taken with unnecessary ostentation. Only he says it like this:

The principal object, then, proposed in these Poems was to choose incidents and situations from common life, and to relate or describe them, throughout, as far as was possible in a selection of language really used by men, and, at the same time, to throw over them a certain colouring of imagination, whereby ordinary things should be presented to the mind in an unusual aspect; and, further, and above all, to make these incidents and situations interesting by tracing in them, truly though not ostentatiously, the primary laws of our nature: chiefly, as far as regards the manner in which we associate ideas in a state of excitement. Humble and rustic life was generally chosen, because, in that condition, the essential passions of the heart find a better soil in which they can attain their maturity, are less under restraint, and speak a plainer and more emphatic language; because in that condition of life our elementary feelings coexist in a state of greater simplicity, and, consequently, may be more accurately contemplated, and more forcibly communicated; because the manners of rural life germinate from those elementary feelings, and, from the necessary character of rural occupations, are more easily comprehended, and are more durable; and, lastly, because in that condition the passions of men are incorporated with the beautiful and permanent forms of nature. The language, too, of these men has been adopted (purified indeed from what appear to be its real defects, from all lasting and rational causes of dislike or disgust) because such men hourly communicate with the best objects from which the best part of language is originally derived; and because, from their rank in society and the sameness and narrow circle of their intercourse, being less under the influence of social vanity, they convey their feelings and notions in simple and unelaborated expressions. Accordingly, such a language, arising out of repeated experience and regular feelings, is a more permanent, and a far more philosophical language, than that which is frequently substituted for it by Poets, who think that they are conferring honour upon themselves and their art, in proportion as they separate themselves from the sympathies of men, and indulge in arbitrary and capricious habits of expression, in order to furnish food for fickle tastes, and fickle appetites, of their own creation.

Seriously guys I laughed out loud. xDDD So uhh I guess you're not doing that whole plain language thing in your intro are you?

Guys. I think I am going to have to work hard this year. For a sustained amount of time. T_T Man, university is a total bait and switch. They gave me this ridiculously easy first year just so I would feel all chill and like I could handle things and then BAM!

Also, thumbs down on profs who do not allow laptops in class. :/ From now on I will know to inquire about such things beforehand.
themadpoker: (cinderella's sister)
I am so excited about my intro to world religions course, oh my gosh. -twirls- My textbooks just came in from Amazon yesterday, they look totally awesome. Can it be September now?

Also I really really want to take the Japanese Culture and Film course except. Except it's nine credits which on top of being expensive might be overloading myself for next year. But they read Banana Yoshimoto and Haruki Murakami and the biggest complaint people seem to have on the prof on ratemyteacher is that he expects the class to lead the discussion too much and marks hard which. With a good class the first shouldn't be a problem and pfft. I CAN HANDLE YOUR MARKING SIR, BRING IT. -poses- So I guess I will have to decide something about that! Preferably soonish.

Anyways, [livejournal.com profile] hmsharmony tagged me for this meme so I'm going to do that now.

15 questions, the sequel! )
themadpoker: (don't wanna get out of bed)
Augh I have to present on the reading on Terminological Chaos tomorrow and all I want to do is sleep and watch How I Met Your Mother. DDDD= Somebody remind me why I thought it was a good idea to do two jobs this summer, I don't remember anymore.

Okay okay FINE shut up conscience I will go do the reading already GOD.

Ugh I'm going to be falling asleep in class tomorrow I bet. D=
themadpoker: (cinderella's sister)
I finally signed up for my summer course! Approximately a month after I was supposed to!

Yeah. >_> I had reasons! See the thing is I really didn't much like my poli sci course this year. I was bored and disengaged and I was afraid that if I took another poli sci course the same thing would happen. And that would force to me wonder what I'm doing in this major because if I don't even like what I'm learning what is the point? And then the world would END because I don't know what I want to do with my life, oh no!

Look, I never said it was a good reason. I have now stopped being ridiculous and registered for States and Societies in the Global Context: Introduction to Comparative Politics. And if I don't like it? Well that is okay! Maybe politics is not my calling! I am certainly not going to find out by avoiding my major, crazy half an hour ago self.

I watched The Vampire Diaries. My happiness quotient has increased by 100%. That is all.

Post Justification: Alot of time spent trying to write my critical analysis of The Wall. Ugh frigging Pink Floyd and their ~symbolism~. TONE IT DOWN BUDDY I'M TRYING TO WRITE A PAPER ON YOU.
themadpoker: (busy girl)
Halfway through writing my tech paper homies!!! =DDD

Yeah I know that doesn't sound so great considering it's nearly 1 AM but factor in the fact that I mean actual WRITING because my general outline and points are done and I think all signs point to me getting at least a few hours of sleep tonight. \o/

Post Justification: Self evident.

P.S. Congratulations on getting that health care bill passed America. I always knew that Obama was a cool dude. =)
themadpoker: (gwen smiling)
Vampie Diaries is coming back this week! =DDD Suddenly I am so much more motivated to not procrastinate and do schoolwork because otherwise I will not have time to watch it live. And that is a travesty that must be thwarted.

Post Justification: Tech Paper research. X_x No offence Americans, but I hate your complicated Medicare system right now.
themadpoker: (never giving up)
Heeeeey Internet. My paper is going terribly! I am thinking maybe I should just skip lecture entirely tomorrow, something tells me I'll be a little too tired to be getting anything out of it. Also I am sort of starting to hate poli sci with the power of a million burning hateful suns. :/ I wonder what eating so many chocolate covered granola bars will do to my health? Probably not good things!

On the bright side I have got my second wind and am no longer shivering! On that note, does anyone else start shivering like they are freezing whenever they stay up too late? Or am I just a strange biological anomaly?

Nearly done my Individual report and it's not quite 10:30. =DD Feeling pretty ace right now.

(Course I haven't even started my response paper but WHATEVER, I don't have class till 12:30 tomorrow and I can totally knock off something quick before then)

...I hope posting this now hasn't jinxed my chances of finishing quickly.
themadpoker: (sadface)
Portfolio is not in fact due on April 23 as I believed. Is due on March 30.

You know what else is due in March?

Tomorrow: 5 page Individual report regarding group project
Response Paper to reading (2-3 pages, one due every Wednesday until March 30th)
March 8: Poli Sci Presentation
March 15: Poli Sci Paper
March 16: Fantasy Group Presentation
March 23: Technological Controversy Paper
March 24: Group Evaluations
March 30: Fantasy Best of Paper and Critical Portfolio (worth 30%!!!)

If I don't post the rest of this month you may safely assume I have sunk into utter despair and hopelessness and am huddled in my own personal mushroom corner.
themadpoker: (Once and Future Bad Ass)
AGH, I have been watching Shrek for three hours. X_x I'm doing it for a school assignment and my attention span is so very SHORT for these things so I keep pausing and doing something else. And this is still relative progress for me since I've been trying to make myself watch it since Monday. WHY SO ALLERGIC TO SCHOOL SELF?

Mostly I am trying to encourage myself with the idea that once I am done Shrek I am free to watch Chocolate (tiny autistic Thai girl beating up various people! VERY INSPIRING =D). Before that I was encouraging myself with the thought of The Vampire Diaries but CTV cancelled it in favour of airing the Olympics. :/ Look I like the Olympics but I don't like them that much. Just give me my witches and vampire brothers and surprise!descendants of vampire girls, okay? Especially when all you're airing is HOCKEY; the only thing I would consider a remotely acceptable trade is figure skating. I thought we already discussed this Canada.

GAH. Okay fine, I will go watch more of Shrek and Princess Fiona now. And try to summon up DEEP~ thoughts about its portrayal of cultural and romantic quests and gender roles and blah blah blah academic stuff.
themadpoker: (meeting the challenge)
I haven't stayed up this late in a long long time. I sort of feel like throwing up. 0_o Well whatever. I swore I'd finish my poli sci proposal before I went to bed and I will SO. Soldier on self, soldier on!
