Mini-Review: Tristan and Isolde
Dec. 13th, 2008 05:44 pmWow. I watched Tristan and Isolde and it was one of the most gorgeous movies I've ever seen. More than made up for the disappointment that was Spiderman 3.
The setting especially - the wide shots were absolutely beautiful. Last time I saw anything like it was Lord of the Rings and I remember actually pausing the movie then to get my mom so we could just marvel over the beautiful scenery together.
I almost can't believe how well done it was! Love stories with a cheating element are a hard sell to me; adultery is pretty high up on my list of things that are absolutely unacceptable. But they did it so well and they didn't try to make them more sympathetic by making Marke horrible or anything. By the time I'd seen about a third of the movie I was so sad because I knew things weren't going to end well for the characters and I actually liked them.
Oh my gosh. I kind of just want to sit here and rave over everything for awhile - the costuming, the characters, the music. But I will control myself. Watch Tristan and Isolde if you want to see a beautiful epic tragic romance. It will not disappoint.
