Movies
16. Suicide Squad (August 7) -- 3.5 stars
I know the reviews were mixed but I had a pretty good time here. Dug the tentative friendship between Harley Quinn and Deadshot though I thought they pushed the found family thing way harder than was warranted by the amount of time the squad spent together. 3.5 stars
17. The Secret Life of Pets (August 14) -- 3.5 stars
Cute and funny which is all I require from animated movies about talking animals. 3.5 stars
18. Florence Foster Jenkins (August 26) -- 3 stars
I was not planning to see this but the theatre I went to see Star Trek removed it from their roster without updating the website so what can you do. Ended up being fun anyways! The company helped, I thought the movie was moderately amusing but my friend was dying of laughter and honestly half my entertainment came out of hearing her. 3 stars
19. Star Trek Beyond (August 30) -- 3.5 stars
I was pleasantly surprised! Into Darkness was so terrible I'd been planning to bounce from the Star Trek reboots altogether but I started hearing positive buzz so I figured I could give it one more shot. This is a good summer action movie; the characters all get moments to shine and there are some nice notes filling out the cast (Sulu's family!!!!) It was a little Ideological Conflict 101 but given that the last two movies made no effort at all to nod towards Star Trek's philosophical side it was nice to see our heroes express some beliefs about their role in space exploration and the Federation. 3.5 stars
