you call it a one way street
Aug. 27th, 2008 03:29 pmWorking on making myself cheerful again. Am currently a bit mad at my mother because she decided I can't go to volunteer today because it's til 8:30 so by the time I get home it'll be dark. =( I'm going to work on a reading list for Writer's Club now.
1. The Lost Prince by Frances Hodgson Burnett
2. The Nature of Jade by Deb Caletti
3. Finder by Emma Bull
4. Year of the Griffin by Diana Wynne Jones
5. The Iron Dragon’s Daughter by Michael Swanwick
6. Skin Hunger by Kathleen Duey
7. Nameless Magery by Delia Marshall Turner
8. This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I need some more boy books in there. And stuff that isn't fantasy. :/ I put in This Side of Paradise for my 'literary' book but I suppose one or two more wouldn't hurt.
Maybe I should replace The Nature of Jade with the The Anvil of the World. :/ I love it to pieces but I suspect it won't appeal as strongly to any guy readers. But if I add Anvil I'm going to up my fantasy count to 6/8.
Wait, I could put The Once and Future King instead! I actually really want to read that anyways. And it should work for decent discussion because, y'know. King Arthur. Awesome legend he's drawing on.
Oh hey, I could stick The Princess Bride in here! But again with the fantasy. I don't think I like having to consider people who might have tastes different from mine. =(
It's kind of hard picking out books I haven't read because I'm picking based on author or reviews I've read.
The Cellist of Sarajevo is literary! And the school library has it so I'd be able to pick it up for sure. I'll check the Amazon reviews.
Only two Amazon reviews. Although they were both positive. :/ I'll keep it in mind as a maybe.
Was could be good for discussion but it sounds crazy depressing.
Lord of the Flies could be my other literary pick! But which book should I get rid of for it? :/ Maybe I'll just not limit the list and then have people vote once Writer's Club starts. I could put all the stuff I think of then.
9. The Once and Future King by T. H. White
10. The Anvil of the World by K. G. Baker
11. The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway
12. The Princess Bride by William Goldman
13. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
That'll do for now. I think I'll call Hanae up for some recommendations, she's not as into fantasy as I am so I'll probably be able to get some more variety.

You read The Cellist of Sarajevo?? Because I'm REALLY happy it's up there. I've been recommending that book all summer. It makes me feel sad and warm at the same time.
