Death Note icons

I downloaded GIMP (thank you missykitty0115!) and I played around with it a bit to make a few Death Note icons. There are 11 total.

I'm no icon-master, but here's my thoughts...

I like the few of Raito's eyes there! And the fourth has a cool colour scheme effect thing going on. With the others, it looks like you used an image of a lesser quality - play around with other effects to help that, I'd suggest, though I don't know what GIMP has. Your composition is good, though, and that's an essential thing to have. Just keep screwing around with it and build from here. :)

Thanks! I'm still figuring out how everything works, for some reason the help files won't work on my computer. They're all not-so-great quality because I've been screencapping the episodes on youtube. Can't figure out how to screencap the episode when it plays on Windows Media Player (the print screen key doesn't seem to work).

OMG I couldn't screencap from WMP and it PISSED ME OFF. But then I realized we have PowerDVD which actually has a little screencap button, and all was well in the world. I think it came with Windows XP.

AGH I want PowerDVD now. My copy of Windows XP isn't exactly legal so it has NOTHING. Not even any Microsoft Office programs. T_T

Haha, Windows XP. I just see the 'XP' face when I look at that... I wonder if that was on purpose...

It is now! :D Now I'm trying to figure out how to translate XP into a real-life expression. Crossing my eyes and sticking out my tongue sort of works. ^^; Now all I need is for my mom to come on and ask what weirdness I'm up to now.

I win! xD I think there's a community dedicated just to gimp... gimp_users if I remember correctly... it's worth checked out, they have some good tutorials over there. :D

I like the first 3 Light icons and I think 5-7 are Lights eye...right? ...I like those. xD; I'd highly suggest saving as .png if your computer allows it. The quality just looks so much better, in my opinion. I mean these are fine, but they're a bit fuzzy and png doesn't add that little fuzz.
Just experiment with coloring and cropping and such. Can you crop in gimp? ...from what I remember you really couldn't...I never did. I used some program that came with my printer. xP Anyway. Just play around with the cropping too. The one of Ryuk is in the center and I've learned that very rarely do centered things look good. ^^;

You can crop, it just takes awhile to figure out how. :D I'll try to remember about saving as png, I saved these all as jpegs.
