Hi lj! Here is a story about me and why I have disappeared off the face of the Internet. On the night of December 31st, 2011 a lone Zeineb thought to herself about how the very next day would be a brand new year in which she could try being the rad person she had the potential to be. She decided to implement a bunch of new year resolutions the details of which are boring to delve into but basically boil down to be a cooler person. Here are some things she tried in keeping with these resolutions!
+ Taking a 120% course load
+ Starting tae kwan dao lessons three times a week.
+ Taking the tafseer classes offered by the campus MSA.
+ Running about giving her resume for work and volunteer positions.
+ Readings and reviewing a book a day on goodreads.
So far these resolutions have been surprisingly successful! It helps that I am perfectly willing to be flexible on things like the definition of a 'book' (manga volumes absolutely count as do comics) and a 'review' (I see no reason why three sentences and two gifs should not be adequate to convey my feelings on a story). The only downside to this quest to improve myself is I have very little free time to spend online any more. :( I decided to keep a monthly media log on livejournal instead of yearly though, so I have at least one guaranteed post each month. I'd love to hear what you've all been up to. Any good books? Movies? New Year's resolutions you are determined to keep up with by hook or crook?

Movies
1. 17 Again (January 1) – 2 stars
I really really need to start following actors and actresses with better taste in movies. -winces- I mostly finished this through the power of stanning and determination to be up on the ~hip teen movies~. Plus unexpected bonus: Katerina Graham and Michelle Trachtenberg were in this! Always nice to see actresses I like getting work.
I'm sad to break my new year's resolution to try and properly review the things I watch so soon but what is there to say about this movie? It sucked, the writing was terrible and I basically cringed in embarrassment whenever Zefron started getting his dad on in public. His acting was pretty good? I could believe he was playing a nearly 40 year old man in a teen's body, that's why I found it all so mortifying. On the other hand, I can't believe that whoever wrote this has spoken to a teenager in the past 20 years. This movie makes a lot more sense if I assume it's all an extended dream of Mike O'Donnell's, this is exactly what I could see a middle-aged disconnected dad picturing high school to be like.
2. The Cat Returns (January 2) – 4 stars
Very charming. I don't think it did anything particularly original but it's fun to just watch a well executed children's story. I liked Haru and I found the supporting cast wholly delightful. Baron Humbert von Gikkingen was very dashing and I can see why Haru had a crush. The Muta reveal made me laugh out loud. Of course he is the terrifying criminal Renaldo Moon, this is totally the sort of movie that would have that kind of fun twist! And Haru was adorable as a cat, I can't say I would've minded lingering a little while in the cat kingdom. :D The story had a nice brisk pace too, I was never in the least bored especially after Haru visited The Cat Bureau. An excellent antidote to 17 Again!
