Today I am reading Shadow Magic!

It's the Havemercy book where nothing happens but at least the nothing doesn't happen in a small Canadian town pre-Confederation which makes it substantially more entertaining than the English book I'm procrastinating on (oh my gosh The Imperialist whyyyyyyy this book literally puts me to sleep no joke, I read ten pages and then drift off. Idk how I will get it done in time to write the essay I have due for it)

In Shadow Magic there is a prince named Mamoru. Yesterday I read the first volume of the Sailor Moon rerelease. All I want is for him to meet a girl named Usagi and fall in love, this will be all it takes to rate this book above Dragonsoul for me (third book of the series, plus: ladies in the Havemercy verse, FINALLY, minus: Thom lost his spine and Rook became even more of a jackass and for most of the book reading their POVs was a misery)

Also I hope the story explains what's going on with the emperor soon because I'm going to be really disappointed if it boils down to he's evil and crazy. Character complexity, give it to me.

I get the feeling this book wants me to ship Mamoru with his bodyguard but like. Princess Serenity, OTP written in the stars, sorry my hands are tied. Maybe I will reconsider if he gets any further characterization outside of being loyal! to! the! death! Sorry Kouje! It's not your fault you're not my favourite moon princess turned sailor scout guardian of justice but what are you gonna do.

Caius kind of reads like Fai from Tsubasa so if his past is revealed to have trauma and a secret twin I'm just going to say called it right now. Also I don't really get why Alcibiades was sent on this mission because he's not a diplomat? But then again this book doesn't really seem interested in portraying any actual diplomacy so I guess it doesn't matter (the only thing I know about the negotiations so far is that they are taking forever because everyone is nitpicky over details. It would be nice to know what a couple of those details are but -kanye shrug- I am only halfway through, maybe the book will tell me soon. I mean it did take Havemercy about 300 pages to have anything resembling a plot so it's not like I couldn't have guessed what I was in for)

Also I am pining away for dragons. This series sold itself to me with the promise of metal dragons and I am feeling terribly ripped off. :(((((((
