Apr. 6th, 2011 11:41 amSo this is a post about Beautiful Darkness! More specifically a post about things I hope are going to happen in Beautiful Darkness on account of how I haven’t read it yet. I was originally thinking of reading Side Jobs by Jim Butcher instead because I am down with short stories except for I read one where Harry started off with his weekly perving over Molly and I said nyet! nyet! No sexytimes for you Dresden! This is why I cheered when the universe cockblocked you with DEATH in Changes! Also this post heavily influenced my decision.
+ MORE RIDLEY. Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl if you're reading this and are suddenly worried that there is not enough Ridley in your book I can direct you to a man named the Doctor who will be perfectly happy to help you with your problem. He can set it up so that Ridley lack was never even an issue!
+ AWESOME LOVE INTERESTS. I hear this is the breakup book? This does not actually bother me much! I am a fickle shipper perfectly happy to follow whatever roads the protaganist takes me. It helps though if the breakup is not overly acriminious and there is a new excellent boy/girl available for me to root for.
+ A PLAUSIBLE WAY FOR ME TO CROSS THIS OVER WITH THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. Remember the southern gothicky historical flashbacks from Beautiful Creatures? Remember how Genevieve would be like hey Lena, gonna take some time in your head to tell you how my life went down, hope you don't mind? I think Lena might have some things to discuss with Bonnie about ancestors who don't take dead for an answer.
+ MORE CASTERS. I love Lena's enormous family. I love her aunt and her difficulty with remaining in the present, I love her mom and her murderous dark side encouragements, and this totally doesn't need stating but man do I ever love Ridley. Macon was great too, but you know, he's dead. Though I suppose this isn't really the kind of book where that automatically puts him out of play so whatever. The point of this bullet point is that I want ALL THE CASTERS.
+ BETTER PACING. I liked Beautiful Creatures but it was crazy slow for the first two hundred pages. It might have worked better for me if I hadn't read it in like two days? But that's how I roll and if I'm going to read a 600 page book then there had better be exciting things happening in all of it.
+ WHAT IS ETHAN'S POWER, TELL ME ALREADY, ASDFSKJAKLJSKF. Seriously, I am going to be super annoyed if Beautiful Darkness skips over telling me this one.
That's it for now! Might check in later with further feelings once I've started reading.

Date: 2011-04-06 04:54 pm (UTC)I mean, I enjoy the Dresden Files quite a lot, but the endless descriptions of the staggering hotness of every single female character are reeeeeally starting to get old.

Date: 2011-04-07 02:50 am (UTC)I just had to laugh when I read 'WHAT IS ETHAN'S POWER'. I have a friend who's dating a boy named Ethan. His powers are math and falling asleep all over the place.
