So I was thinking of writing up a proper review for Uraboku now that I've finished except for...I don't want to? Most of it is boring! So instead I will just tell you a little about it and spice up the boring with copious use of exclamation marks!
Uraboku is a vaguely BL-ish fantasy anime about some reincarnated kid with psychic powers. And by vaguely I mean they pair everyone off and I am like lolol whatever except there is one ship which I ship like crazy and then there are never any makeouts and I yell at my screen. >l
The major thing Uraboku has going for it is its art! I had never heard of it before and then it popped up on one of my comms and I was like oooh that’s some nice promo art, I can haz? And I tried the first two episodes and I was like OH MY GOD how are these leads so boring, are they secretly made of cardboard, why are they running through every single cliché without a single hint of originality, why doesn’t the uke kid consider actually listening when he is told don’t go outside, things want to kill you tonight, I wonder if I would be more interested if they were girls, no probably not the boring is overwhelming with these two but ooh the use of color is pretty.
That formula is actually a pretty accurate rendition of my thoughts for nearly every episode.
But around episode 5! This dude showed up! And he was like ‘hero, do you use your brains, how are you fooled by the obvious tricks every single time, also demon protector dude what about your brains, why do you let him off on his own with his never ending ability to try and get himself killed?’ And I was like ‘...hmm. Go on, go on.’ And then his partner showed up and they were co-dependent at each other and the partner started doing this passive-aggressive push-pull thing and I was like ‘!!! A character who is not a shining beacon of kindness and crying at others pain and is acting in a manner that one could legitimately describe as not at all nice? OTP!’
And then the show was like we think so too! And there was an entire arc dedicated to their ~issues~ and the partner got kidnapped by a demon of unrequited love (no really!) and there were significant scars of angst and one of them tried to set himself on fire and suddenly there were bits of each episode in which the characters interested me more than the scenery! =D And by episode 14 the plotline got resolved and they had their final conversation of ~working things out~ and I yelled at my screen because all that and still no kissing????
So yeah! That’s Uraboku! I do not at all recommend it although if by some chance you did get sucked into watching the show and know of fic then direct me to the Hotsuma/Shusei because I have managed to find two which did not make me want to weep for the state of humanity. T_T Oh the perils of being in a small anime fandom. Oh the extra perils of actually shipping the DRAMATIC ANGSTY slash where the fic takes its cue from the show. Oh the perils squared of skipping over the PWPs which makes up 50% of all fic published. That is what I get for watching a show solely for an OTP.

It's like kendo. We went to the practice today and we can be the swords and all and that is nice, but their uniforms are so cool looking and we can't buy those. D:
