Oh my God guys. Why am I so invested in Yura/Haruka in Honey Hunt? I rated volume 5 four stars and I KNOW it doesn't technically deserve it but I did it anyways because the ending has Haruka about to confess his love and apparently OTP love is a really great way to overshadow all other considerations of quality for me. orz

See I'm pretty sure I would not care quite as much if this was a series by any other author but in this case all my frustration with Hot Gimmick is fueling further investment in Honey Hunt. Because when he has a crush he invites her to concerts! And his thoughts tend to run along the lines of 'oh my god look she is really pretty today and she's talking and what did I just say, that was totally UNCOOL she is never going to fall for me at this rate oh my god she is smiling at me and please go out with me Yura! I THINK YOU'RE SUPER GREAT AND I 100% SUPPORT YOUR CAREER, IT IS TOTALLY AWESOME WATCHING YOU SHINE AS AN ACTRESS'.

Do you know how amazing this is? Miki Aihara is the woman who wrote Hot Gimmick, a manga where the heroine is blackmailed by the hero into being his slave and is constantly trying to stave off his attempts at sexual coercion and eventually starts dating him while he continues with said coercion and also insults her ALL THE TIME (her name is Hatsumi not stupid woman or slave or idiot oh my god Ryoki, why can't you just fall into a convenient fire?) Her other two love interests include Azusa, who dated her and masqueraded as a seemingly normal nice human being until he tried to get her gangraped as revenge for his mother who committed suicide after being dumped by her father (and when he reveals this tale of woe she apologizes to him on her father's behalf WHILE HE IS ATTEMPTING TO HAVE HER RAPED, it was the most horrible thing I have ever seen and in hindsight makes me wonder why I ever believed Hot Gimmick would be about Hatsumi growing a backbone and extricating herself from all her abusive relationships) and Shinobu, her adopted brother (he is actually a good guy who always treats her with affection and recognizes that it is really messed up for him to be in love with his adopted sister. This, rather than the pseudocest should be your biggest clue that he has absolutely no chance at all). The manga ends with Ryoki ordering her to marry him, totally ignoring her protests and her giving in thinking maybe 'he'll finally be nicer to me if I marry him'.

She also wrote Teacher's Pet where the heroine is raped by her student and her fiancee (who is his brother) tries to punish her for 'cheating' and she ends up with the rapist. I can't give you more details, I blocked as much of it from my memory as I possibly could.

ANYWAYS. You can perhaps see how this sort of history might make a pairing like Yura/Haruka seem amazing, even magical in contrast. No abuse! No skeeve! No rape! JUST A DUDE ACTING LIKE A NORMAL PERSON WITH A CRUSH. IT IS A MIRACLE I SAY. A MIRACLE.

And that is why I will cry if she ends up with her manager. I am sorry [livejournal.com profile] thatdayismine, but this is my Miki Aihara manga of No Skeeve. There will be no questionable romance here! Significant age difference or power differentials are being THROWN OUT THE WINDOW. I don't give a fig about the manager's emerging ~feelings~, he can save them for someone who isn't in HIGH SCHOOL. >l

Oh man, I feel like this is a rant I have made at least a dozen times before and yet I never tire of it. LOOK I HAVE VERY INTENSE FEELINGS ABOUT MIKI AIHARA'S WORK WHICH I NEED TO EXPRESS OKAY?
