This really went off-topic and also turned to toothache-type fluff but...

---

Sakura comes home and finds her kitchen table on fire. There are several Naruto bunshin spazzing out with water buckets and as far as she can see doing nothing to actually douse out the flames. She pauses at the doorway for a moment thinking she should really keep a camera for occasions like these (she's heard of of a competition for insane shinobi pictures and she doubts anything could top this) before rushing to the sink, grabbing the fire extinguisher, and dousing the entire kitchen liberally. Once the foam's stopped spraying and the multitude of bunshin have popped out of existance she turns to Naruto.

"What happened here?"

The startled guilty look on his face makes her want to laugh but she keeps her features stern. She'd liked that table.

"I'm sorry Sakura-chan! I promise I'll pay for a new table!" Naruto puts his hand behind his head. It's a nervous gesture she recognizes (Naruto gets nervous around her often, for various reasons). For some reason she wants to laugh even more now.

"Yes, but could you explain why there was a fire in the first place? And for that matter how'd you get into my house?"

"Your mom let me borrow her spare key" he answers. Sakura notes that he's avoided answering how the fire got started for the second time. He's probably done something even stupider then usual.

"I still want to know why my table was burning." She's starting to lose patience and from the way Naruto backs up a step she's pretty sure her expression is making it obvious.

"Here!" he says, thrusting a small square package at her. She looks at it bemusedly for a second and then he starts talking.

"See, Hinata came and asked me yesterday what she should get you for a birthday present and then I realized I forgot your birthday so I got you this and I bought a cake from that bakery in the Eastern district and I got these really cool-looking candles too and it was gonna be a surprise but then the stupid lighter wouldn't light so I tried this new fire jutsu Ero-sennin taught me but the fire went way too big and I was going to put it out and then you came home and I really am sorry about the table!!" he sucks in a deep breath after finishing his spiel, having not stopped to breath once throughout it.

"...My birthday?" she spares a quick glance to her calender to confirm what he'd said. March 28th. Huh. She'd forgotten.

Naruto's still looking like he's afraid she's going to hit him. Which he probably should be. She'd have to check what he got her first. She glances down to the present in her hands again. The wrapping looks pretty good. She would've pegged Naruto as the type to wrap things messily, and probably mess up the bow too.

"The wrapping looks nice" she remarks, mostly because she's not sure what to say yet.

"Yeah, the lady at the store wrapped it for free too" he replies, offering a tentative smile. Perhaps he'll be able to get out of this without bruises. Sakura's punches really hurt.

Ah. She knew Naruto couldn't have done such something so neat. She almost doesn't want to open it looks so pretty with the bright red bow and the pattern of fall leaves on the paper. I need to stop going off on these thought tangents, she thinks and rips off the paper without further ado. She pulls the lid off the plain white box underneath and takes a look.

Oh. Oh. She turns to Naruto, thought of her scorched table fleeing from her head.

"These are beautiful", her voice is full of wonder and she can't stop a huge smile from alighting on her face. She holds up the pair of delicate pink crystal earrings in front of her. "How could you afford these?" she shakes her head. "No, never mind, just thank you."

Naruto's beaming now, his smile almost larger then Sakura's. It was lucky his monthly food rations came in today. He'll be limited to only one bowl of ramen a day for the next few weeks but this is totally worth it.

"You like them? I just kinda thought the colour matched your hair and the saleslady said it was a good choice but I wasn't really sure", he's babbling again, this time more from happiness rather then fear.

Sakura steps closer to him and quickly gives him a kiss on the cheek. "They're perfect"

---

Plus you get an omake!

After Sakura kisses Naruto she notices he smells like smoke and remembers her burnt table again.

"You know, I expect to see you replace that within a month."

Naruto sweatdrops. "As you see about that Sakura-chan..."

>_< I still can't believe how ridiculously fluffy that turned out. Do you know I was totally making fun of myself while writing this? But I still couldn't quit.

It's my first try at writing anything Naruto related. I hope it didn't totally suck!

It is so cute. ♥ I love the fluff, actually. And the image at the beginning of all the Naruto bunshin was incredibly amusing. XD;; You win. ♥

I wrote the NejiLeeGaara, but it totally fails compared to this. XD;; I'll right you a better one, ok? ♥
