Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion

RTD, what on Earth was that? I mean were you trying to make me hate the new Doctor? Because if that's your goal then you're doing a bang up job, I'm pretty close. I mean I was trying to be open minded going on! I told myself 'Zeineb you need to give the Tenth Doctor a chance. It is not his fault he is not Christopher Eccleston. He can't help that, there's only one of him.'
But then there was like half an hour of the entire cast basically running around going 'OMG Doctor SAVE US!' And I was like 'Oh dear. This isn't going to be a theme this season is it? Because one of my favourite things about Season 1 was that the Doctor was rarely the guy who saved the day. He was a hero because he inspired OTHER people to be heroes. That is something I like very very much!' But still I attempted to reason with myself because again, it's not exactly the Doctor's fault that RTD has some strange ideas about how to make someone seem awesome (Hint: It's not by tearing every other character down. In fact that is a very good way to ensure I will hate them out of sheer spite).
And his intro was actually pretty decent, he seemed funny. Also a wee bit spazzy which is always a plus!
And he saved the day and it sort of hit my 'DDDDD= Only one person saved the day while the others stood around being useless' anti-kink (umm I do not really know what to call it other than that. Is there a word for things/ideas/tropes which you pretty much always dislike?) but it was cool. I rolled with it. And things ended with HUGS which hey! One of my favourite things!
AND THEN HE GOT HARRIET JONES FIRED. And I hated that on several levels not least of which were: a) Harriet Jones is awesome! I love her! I do not love people who make her lose her job, b) Ahahahaha and what makes you think YOU have the right to judge her actions huh? Like she said she's Harriet Jones, representative of the human race. You are not human and make a point of this. They are the ones who get to weigh in on her actions, c) What is this godmoddery? WHAT IS IT? Suddenly the Doctor has mind control? Or something like that? Because otherwise I do not see how a single comment could result in everybody deciding she is incompetent and d) Humanity is not sheeple. =((((((
So yeah. I guess I'm just going to pretend that didn't happen? Unless hubris is supposed to be a super big thing this season and he ends up paying for it somehow. I don't know, one episode is too early for me to judge just yet. We will see what happens next!

Date: 2010-01-03 05:48 am (UTC)I'm glad to hear the day saving trend does not continue! And I understand your difficulty with the letting go. I actually picked up season 2 a week ago but I didn't try to watch it until now because I was not quite ready to let go of Nine just yet and every time I looked at the DVD case I went 'You are not Christopher Eccleston! D=' -puts away-
Also more Harriet! =D I pretty much decided she was awesome back in World War Three so I'm glad the show will continue to acknowledge it. ^.^

Harriet takes a while to return, but oh! When she does!
