Does time speed up when you get older? Is that a thing? How are we a month into 2016 already, I'm PRETTY SURE there's got to be some kind of time magic involved.

1. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (January 11) -- 3 stars

What's the equivalent of 'literary' for films? Because this felt like a very literary film. Its' strong points are style and mood -- the cinematic equivalent of pretty writing -- but it's very quiet, not much happens in it. I've seen it described as a vampire western but it doesn't feel like it's engaging very heavily with western tropes. Vampire, yes, but mostly because vampires have been used as metaphors for just about everything under the sun; so as long as you have a vampire character you're set to go for that particular genre conversation. 3 stars

2. Mad Max: Fury Road (January 30) -- 3 stars

Very pretty colouring but I suspect the Internet hyped this up a smidge too much for me. I did think it got better as it went; that first half hour or so I was mostly in a state of 'what am I watching?' And then characters started getting dialogue and I started grasping what was going on so. Better! 3 stars
