It was my birthday today. Also it was one of the Best Days Ever.

So by coincidence today turned out to be the day for the Annual Eritrean Muslims Picnic. The EMC picnic is always awesome but this year was amazing. We (me and about 3 other girls I picked up):

1. We checked out the Scarborough Museum. It doesn't actually look like a museum - it's this really pretty white house with amazing flowers out front - but I noticed the sign when we were driving in. The tour was fun (reminded me of Black Creek Village) and was free. Plus they gave us vanilla ice-cream they made and the recipe (which I completely plan to try the minute I convince my mom that I hold no nefarious plans for the amount of sugar it requires). Also one of the tour girls had a Harry Potter book hidden under a cover that said 'The Art of Blacksmithing' which I just found completely awesome.

2. There's a stream/creek/flowing body of water that runs through the park. As all of us are remarkably childish girls we made our way down there to try our luck with skipping stones. None of us proved to have any talent for it so we switched to seeing who could make the biggest splash. There was this one humongous rock a little way into the creek that we determined would make the Best Splash Ever if we could pick it up. After much effort, huffing and puffing, and dirtying of our hands the three of us managed to pick the stone up. Unfortunately we couldn't carry it far enough to toss. xD We made the effort, that's what counts.

3. Later on we found another group of kids attempting to 'explore' the woods. After climbing up the hill (and I mean this literally because it was the steepest hill I have ever seen and I am certain more then a few of us harboured fears of slipping straight off) we found a cemetery. Possibly it's a little morbid that we should enjoy looking around a cemetery so much but it was nice. A few of the headstones had short poems about the deceased written on them. They were really sweet.

Ended off the day helping Intisar organize the little kids into a game of Hot Potato and hitting the pinata. It is an extremely difficult thing to get a group of little kids to do anything, even if it is something they enjoy. My respect for Intisar grows every day I see her.

When I got home (about two hours ago) I found a bunch of e-cards in my inbox. One of them was from a friend I haven't talked to in ages and 5 of them were all from the same person. I am reminded daily why I love my friends so much.

Not a bad way to start the sixteenth year, huh? :)
