I have been trying to read the new Dresden Files book, Changes and it's not working. D=

Okay let me explain something to you. Over the past couple of months my tolerance for fictional dudes ANGRY because of their betrayal by a woman has gone down to nearly nil. I do not know why but it has. Possibly it's because I have read many romance novels where this is a trope. Which is particularly frustrating because it's usually due to a misunderstanding or the lady in question had some really good reasons and I sit there saying 'SHUT YOUR ANGRY MOUTH, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HER CIRCUMSTANCES!'. Or possibly it's because I overloaded by reading some excerpts from the Sword of Truth books which feature brilliant things like Our Hero acquiring a sword which amplifies his ANGER (SEDUCTIVELY).

No really here's a quote.

From deep within, he felt his anger stir, brought to life, searching direction. He was suddenly aware of the tooth against his chest.

As his rage rose, he felt an awakening power rushing into him from the sword: the twin to his own anger. His own feelings had always seemed independent, whole. This was like having an image in a mirror come to life. It was a terrifying specter. His anger fed on the force from the sword, and in return, the wrath from the sword fed on his anger. Together the twin storms spiraled through him. He felt like a helpless bystander, being dragged along. It was a frightening and at the same time seductive sensation that bordered on violation. Fearful perceptions of his own anger twisted with tantalizing promise. The bewitching emotions rushed headlong though him, seizing his anger, soaring with it. Richard struggled through the rage. He was on the brink of panic. On the brink of abandon.

Yeah. This has become a problem because the very first ten pages of Changes feature deep rage from Harry due to his finding out his girlfriend had his child without informing him. So my reading goes like this.

Harry: A storm of rage is rising within me. This is dangerous for I am a pretty powerful dude so I am going to attempt to sit on it for a bit.
Me: :/
Harry: Our daughter has apparently kidnapped so I am going to work with you on the rescue. But my rage is not forgotten. There WILL be a reckoning later.
Me: HARRY DRESDEN YOU SHUT YOUR --
Me: No stop Zeineb you are being unfair. This is pretty justifiable anger okay? Not telling him about his daughter was very much a not okay thing to do. Also you LIKE Dresden remember? That's why you've read ELEVEN books in this series even though really long series are not something you're particularly good at either.
Harry: I wield my rage as a blade, blasting down some evil vampires.
Me: Must...suppress...Sword of Truth...flashbacks
Me: YOU SHUT YOUR ANGRY MOUTH HARRY DRESDEN I DON'T CARE IF I AM BEING IRRATIONAL, I CANNOT TOLERATE DUDELY RAGE AT THE MOMENT

When I said I liked reading about dudes struggling with FEELINGS~ this was not what I meant. =( I'll give it another shot again later because I really do like the Dresden files series! I just really wish this book had started off a bit differently. Maybe given me some more time to get reinvested in Harry again before launching into his BETRAYAL.
