Rec Post: The Susan Pevensie Edition
I had such great hopes for this post! It was going to be a list of like 20 awesome Susan things and I would explain why they were awesome and it would all be wonderful. That did not happen.
I tried, guys, I really tried! I bookmarked like forty Narnia fic to read so I could go through them all to find all the Susan-centric gems. Unfortunately I have the attention span of a hyperactive cat and have spent the past six months bouncing from fandom to fandom and occasionally looking at this post guiltily. Today I came to the conclusion that I will never finish this post to my satisfaction so I may as well post it now.

Fanvids
In Some Dreaming State For me this is the quintessential Susan vid. The song choice matches so well to her story it feels like it was written for her. And I love the clip choices – particularly what she does with No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden. Also it is nice to find a Susan vid that is not at all shippy! =D I mean I don't have a problem with Peter/Susan or Caspian/Susan and you can go search them on youtube if you're interested in that but I think she is excellent enough to carry a vid on her own.
Fanfiction
All She Knows of Heaven Susan, Narnia, the train wreck and the rings. Growing up means moving on.
I really like this for the idea of Susan as a healer. It makes sense to me that she’d volunteer in the hospitals during WWII. This takes the view that Susan did forget about Narnia which makes it run closer to what I suspect book canon would argue. It all feels very plausible for the books actually – I like alot of Susan fic because they’re sympathetic to her in a way that argues against the idea that she was no longer a friend to Narnia because she abandoned it for frivolous things but they don’t necessarily feel like what Lewis might have imagined (not a bad thing!) This does though. I can believe book!Susan got some measure of peace in England like this.
Bound By What You Are Susan does not store her bow and quiver in the armoury, like the other archers. Despite the protests of Peter and Lucy, she keeps them in her bedchamber, propped against her wardrobe.
Oh man. Susan Pevensie is just super competent and practical and insists on maintaining the state of Narnian troops because Aslan never promised them protection. I love fic that makes a point of showing what Susan contributed to their reign as the High Queen. I can totally see her taking this role; looking at their border security and insisting they need to be better prepared. And of course it all pays off in the end. ♥
Something Practical And on the boat Susan dreams of incense and green silk and always music in the background.
This fic and its prequel Little by Little (Lucy-centric) were one of my earliest entries into Narnia fandom. I was determined to find it again before I made this post. I really recommend you read them both, Something Practical works best if you have Little by Little under your belt. I love the ideas about stories and witches in this.
And After Darkness, Light Susan remembers.
Oh this was just so lovely and comforting, like a hug. It’s nice to see a fic that takes the religious themes Lewis had and writes them in a way that doesn’t feel at all alienating, just sweet and full of forgiveness. This is another happy ending I can see for book!Susan.
Once and Always (the Story to Tell) Once a Queen of Narnia, forgotten a Queen of Narnia; Susan Pevensie's story to tell.
I love that this is a fic set after Susan returns. The heaven!Narnia’s never been very satisfying for me, it doesn’t seem to have any stories. I think it’s because it’s too perfect; what are you supposed to say about heaven beyond they lived happily ever after? But this handles it so well, Susan comes back and she still has to negotiate being with her family again and what it means that she gave up on Narnia. I especially like that it’s Edmund who talks to her first, of all the family I think he’s the one who would have understood her choice best.

A Winter’s Tale (Narnia/Doctor Who) The importance of shoes, socks, scarves and other things.
I would have liked to see the season of Doctor Who where Susan travelled with Ten as a companion. =) I like how unimpressed with the Doctor she is and her practicality goes well with his...well Tennishness. xD I’m not saying he’s a drama queen buuut. Susan was a queen, I think she is experienced with his handling his type.
Time from Time (Narnia/Merlin) The Susan Pevensie walks into a bar and meets... Gaius!
My two favourite magical fandoms in one fic! The only faint disappointment I have in this fic is that Susan didn’t get to meet Morgana. Dark haired women screwed over by their narratives unite, it could have been epic. –sighs– I particularly like her conversation with Merlin, trying to give him some hope. I also believe strongly that Uther would try to arrest her for magic even if she hadn’t done any. Because that is Uther Paranoid Pendragon for you. -eyes-
Augh, this is so shooort. =( One day I will return to this and add all the fic that I meant to read and rec. One day.

D= This is Susan Pevensie and Narnia fandom is beyond dedicated to fixing her story, if I could just stick to a fandom for more than three seconds I would have so much more! (well except Merlin, I appear to have no troubles sticking to that. But that is because A/G is forever, simple explanations)
