The House of the Spirits

Wow. I am so impressed right now. I just finished reading The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende and it was BRILLIANT.

See, it's one of the novels I had to read for English and usually class assigned reading isn't all that fabulous but oh my God, I think it just redeemed the whole reading list we had this year.

Read it. Amazing, brilliant novel which should be devoured and mulled over afterwards.

I remember when my class had to do that novel, and the girl in our group, part way through the book refused to read any more 'cause she was against the whole rape thing. Needless to say we lost a person in our group and had to do the remainder of her share of the work.

That's really not fair. When my friends and I got to the rape scene, we all paused to commiserate over how much of a jerk Esteban was and went on reading.
