Just the most excellent lady ever. =D She writes mostly children's and YA fantasy fiction but delves into adult from time to time (Deep Secret and A Sudden Wild Magic being two examples). She is one of my absolute favourite authors. If I don't understand something in a Diana Wynne Jones book I know it is simply because I have not been paying enough attention and should read it again because DWJ and plot holes do not belong in the same sentence. I've been reading (and rereading!) her since I was a tiny middle school child.
