What is this book all about? Well let us begin with where it is set! It is five months after the Boov have invaded the Earth and abducted Gratuity's mother. Being distinctly NOT fond of these aliens, Gratuity elects to drive herself over to the new human preserve in Florida in her car instead of snagging a ride on one of the spaceships. On her way she meets a Boov named J. Lo. And then they have ADVENTURES.

Here is a list of things this book contains in non-chronological order. Road trips! Strings that smell of root beer! An explanation of The True Meaning of Smekday! The Boov history in comic form! A cat named Pig! A girl called Tip! A Boov named J. Lo! Happy Mouse Kingdom! Chief Shouting Bear (also known as Frank)! A biracial smart and slightly bossy awesomesauce protaganist! Colonialism! That sounds almost as good as 'Pretty Monsters', which contains: carniverous sofas, dueling librarians, a phone booth in Los Vegas, a statue of George Washington, a boy named Onion, and useless wizards.

I saw Avatar with my sister and was very distracted by their tails. Their long, swishy tails....D<
And their pointy ears that they could move at will.

Pretty Monsters was pretty excellent. Would have been MORE excellent if I hadn't already read half the stories in other anthologies but hey you can't have everything. Which was your favourite? I liked the one with the girl and the statue who had a magical mother (hahaha so specific I am. >_> I don't really remember the details, just the feel of it). Something about thieving or tricksterness in it too possibly?

But yes. Read it! And then recommend it to everyone. The world must prepare itself for the arrival of our Boov overlords.
